Knowsley Violence: Jared Skeete Jailed Over Hotel Mayhem
Jared Skeete, 19, from Irwell Close, has been locked up after pleading guilty to violent disorder. The chaos unfolded outside the Suites Hotel in Knowsley on Friday 10 February.
Peaceful Protest Turns Ugly
What began as a peaceful protest and counter-protest swiftly spiralled out of control. Troublemakers, not involved in the initial gatherings, descended on the scene intent on wreaking havoc. Their reckless violent behaviour showed zero regard for the public or police officers on duty.
During the rampage, offenders launched missiles – including lit fireworks – at officers. A police van was viciously attacked with hammers, before being set ablaze.
Police Hit Back
Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald slammed the dangerous actions:
“The appalling scenes of that evening were completely reprehensible and Skeete clearly played a role in the disorder. We welcome the sentencing today and hope that he spends his time in prison reflecting on his dangerous actions on that night.”
“We always respect the right to peaceful protest, but the violence outside the Suites Hotel was totally unacceptable. It endangered officers, the public, and the community.”
“Merseyside Police and our partners will not tolerate groups targeting this premises or terrorising local residents. This sentence sends a clear message: anyone involved in violent disorder on our streets will face the courts, no matter their role.”
