Sex Predator Jailed Over 10 Years for Rape After Fake Taxi Offer

Offender Traps Woman with Fake Ride Home

A sex offender has been locked up for more than a decade after luring a woman into his car under the pretence of offering a cheap taxi ride. Seyi Odeyemi, 23, approached the victim in Camden, London, late at night on 3 September 2023, claiming he could take her home for half the taxi fare.

Instead of driving her home, Odeyemi took the woman to a hotel near Northfleet. The victim was left semi-conscious and unable to stand, but Odeyemi dragged her into a room where he raped her.

Victim Finds Courage to Report Horrific Attack

The next morning, the traumatised woman woke up confused next to a stranger. After confiding in a friend, she reported the assault to police. Officers swiftly identified Odeyemi, who was arrested four days later.

It emerged Odeyemi was already subject to a sexual risk order, which he blatantly breached by failing to obtain consent or inform anyone he engaged with of the order’s existence.

Extended Sentence and Lifelong Registration

Hailing from Adams Drive, Willesborough, Ashford, Odeyemi was charged with rape and breaching the sexual risk order. Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court on 14 August 2024.

On 4 December, the judge sentenced him to an extended term of 10 years and six months in prison. After release, he will serve five years on licence, face a 20-year sexual harm prevention order, and remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery

“This criminal was under a court order because he was a known risk to women. He ignored it and exploited a vulnerable woman,” said Detective Constable James Lake.

“Odeyemi is a predator who subjected his victim to an appalling ordeal. He belongs behind bars. The victim showed immense courage by coming forward and helping us secure justice.”
