A Sudanese man, Alnour Mohamed Ali, 27, has been charged following the deaths of four migrants in a tragic attempt to cross the English Channel. The victims, two men and two women, were lost to strong currents near Calais after trying to board a dinghy.

The tragedy occurred early on Thursday morning at Equihen-Plage, south of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Around 7am local time, the group tried to set sail for Britain but were swept away by fierce currents just as they launched their dinghy.

The National Crime Agency confirmed that Ali allegedly piloted the boat from France towards the UK and has been charged with endangering others during a sea journey. He is scheduled to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court this Saturday.

This fatal incident highlights the ongoing dangers faced by migrants risking the Channel crossing in hopes of reaching the UK.
