A Sussex Police officer is scheduled to appear in court over the tragic death of 27-year-old Arthur Hölscher-Ermert, who died after being struck by a car in Peacehaven on April 30, 2022.
The officer, whose identity remains confidential for legal reasons, faces charges of death by dangerous driving. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 9, 2024.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched a full investigation on May 1, 2022, following a mandatory referral from Sussex Police. After nearly a year of investigation, the IOPC submitted its report to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in April 2023, which led to the authorised charge against the officer.
The CPS has also confirmed that it will not prosecute a second officer who was under criminal investigation for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The IOPC expressed sincere condolences to the family of Arthur Hölscher-Ermert and all those affected by this heartbreaking incident. They also urged the public and media to refrain from speculation or reporting that could compromise the integrity of the upcoming trial.
