A teenage girl appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, 12 July, charged with the murder of 24-year-old Nimroy Hendricks. The Crown accepted her plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Medical experts confirmed that the girl was suffering from a significant abnormality of mind at the time of the stabbing, which led to the plea being accepted. She was remanded for pre-sentencing reports, with the sentencing date yet to be set.
Nimroy Hendricks, known as Nim by friends, died after being found with a stab wound to the chest on 27 October last year in Russell Way, Crawley. The defendant and Nim were known to each other.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team commented on the case, saying, “The loss of Nimroy Hendricks is heart-breaking. The whole circumstances are complex and tragic; our thoughts are with everyone affected. The acceptance of the manslaughter plea was made after thorough examination by Counsel, CPS, Police, and Nim’s family, based on all expert evidence.”
