A teenage girl was reportedly raped near a playground in Erith, sparking alarm across the community. The shocking attack took place on Canada Road just after 9:30pm on August 15.
The police acted fast, detaining an 18-year-old man close to the scene. He was held on suspicion of rape but has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Detectives initially sealed off Canada Road to comb the area for clues. That cordon has now been removed as inquiries advance.
Detective Inspector Mark Paterson from the Metropolitan Police’s Safeguarding Team vowed to support the victim and her family through this traumatic time. He stressed the importance of gathering any information from the public to crack the case. “No detail is too small,” Paterson said.
The Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed officers are working tirelessly to get to the truth. Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting case number 8033/15 August or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.
