Teen Crashes Into Cop on Electric Bike – Gets Slap on the Wrist

Reckless Ride Ends in Injury

Swindon teen Thierry Holness, 18, has been handed a suspended sentence after seriously injuring a Wiltshire Police officer during a dangerous stunt on his electric motorcycle. The shocking crash happened on the night of 13 January 2024 when Holness, then just 17, was spotted riding carelessly at the junction of Faringdon Road and Westcott Place.

Police were waiting in a marked car around 11:20 p.m. when an officer stepped out to confront Holness. Instead of stopping, the teenager collided with the officer, leaving him with severe injuries requiring hospital treatment and a tough recovery.

Light Sentence for Serious Crime

At Swindon Crown Court, Holness pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The court gave him a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years. On top of that, he must:

  • Complete 225 hours of unpaid work
  • Attend up to 35 rehabilitation activity days
  • Pay a £41 victim surcharge
  • Face a 30-month driving ban and pass an extended competency test before getting his licence back

Police Slam Dangerous Behaviour

Chief Constable Catherine Roper blasted Holness’ reckless actions: “Wiltshire Police officers work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. This incident, where one of our own was hurt while doing his job, is completely unacceptable.”

“We hope this sentence sends a clear warning – dangerous behaviour on our roads won’t be tolerated. Those responsible will face the full force of the law.”

Stay Safe on E-Bikes

Wiltshire Police remind all riders to follow safety rules when using electric bikes and powered vehicles. Proper licensing, insurance, and adherence to the law are crucial. For guidance, visit the Wiltshire Police website or the GOV.UK site.
