Police say the woman was trying to call off the hounds, who had been pursuing several horses, when she was fatally mauled. Paramedics rushed to the scene at Gravelly Hill but were unable to save her.
Surrey Police detained eight dogs at the scene. Their owners are being kept informed as detectives continue their investigation. No arrests have been made.
Community Left in Shock as Investigation Continues
Inspector Lyndsey Whatley, Tandridge borough commander, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a young woman has sadly lost her life. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.”
She reassured the local community: “We are confident all the dogs involved are in police custody while we investigate the circumstances.”
Police have maintained cordons around the scene, allowing only local residents access. Specialist teams conducted forensic work, and woodland paths nearby remain closed as officers search for any further evidence.
