Burglars Who Tied Up Elderly Woman in Stockbridge Jailed for 20 Years
Two men who brazenly burgled a Stockbridge home and left an elderly woman tied to a banister for over an hour have been locked up for a combined 20 years.
Shocking Crime in Dead of Night
Police raced to Stockbridge Road just before 4am on 23 March 2020 after the victim was found bound and helpless. The crooks made off with valuable jewellery and a rare Military Cross Medal, complete with a presentation case and a letter signed by the king.
None of the stolen items have been recovered since the chilling raid.
Guilty Pleas and Heavy Sentences
Jed Ronnie Martin, 26, from Southampton, and Eriks Valants, 22, also from Southampton, were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, aggravated burglary, and robbery. Both pleaded guilty to robbery at Winchester Crown Court earlier this month.
Yesterday, 8 April, the pair were each handed a hefty 10-year prison term.
Police Praise Teamwork That Nabbed the Duo
“When leaving the address, the two offenders left the victim taped to the bannister knowing it would be twenty-four hours until her next visit,” said Detective Constable Thomas Bailey.
DC Bailey added that a lengthy investigation by Hampshire Constabulary officers uncovered crucial evidence that forced the criminals to spill the beans, despite their attempts to cover their tracks.
Justice has been served for the traumatised victim in Stockbridge.
