A man has been sentenced to prison following a brutal assault on a schoolboy near shops in Hillhouse, Waltham Abbey. The attack occurred just before 8pm on Wednesday, 11 June last year, when Collins Mufuta targeted the teenager who was walking with friends.
Mufuta shouted at the boy before delivering multiple punches. The victim attempted to run away, but Mufuta caught him and continued the assault. In a shocking development, Mufuta stabbed the teenager in the leg before fleeing the scene. The injury to the youngster’s thigh was serious but not life-threatening.
Police launched a full investigation into the incident. Despite Mufuta’s efforts to conceal his identity, detectives used detailed CCTV footage along with forensic and digital evidence to identify the 22-year-old drifter with no fixed address. Key details, including the clothes he wore, helped secure his arrest in Waltham Abbey the following month.
After being arrested, Mufuta initially remained silent and denied the charges. However, confronted with overwhelming evidence, he pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court in December. He admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in public.
On Monday, 19 January, Collins Mufuta was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison for the attack.
