Beckenham Park Stabbing: Peckham Man Found Guilty of Murder

Shock rippled through the community after 20-year-old Godfrey Madondo was found guilty of murdering 19-year-old Jeremiah Sewell. The fatal stabbing happened during a chance meeting in Beckenham Place Park in the early hours of July 16 last year.

Jealousy Over Neighbourhood Sparks Fatal Attack

Prosecutor Alan Kent KC revealed the motive: Madondo and his mates from Peckham targeted Jeremiah because he was from Beckenham. The deadly altercation took place in a deserted car park inside the public park.

Two Women Caught Trying to Cover Up the Crime

  • Khelsi Johnson-Davies, 20, and Leah Simmonds, 20, were found guilty of tampering with evidence. Simmonds had already admitted involvement.
  • Kadjo Kadio, 19, from Romford, was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges.

Timeline of Tragedy Unfolded in Court

Jeremiah had spent the evening socialising at a home music studio on July 15. Just after 4am, Madondo and the two women arrived in a black Vauxhall Astra. Kadio, known to Jeremiah, approached their car, followed by Madondo wearing a balaclava.

When asked where he was from, Jeremiah said Beckenham. Seconds later, Madondo stabbed him twice in the neck and fled.

DNA Evidence and Secret Chats Seal Verdict

Madondo was caught the next day but stayed silent during police interviews. Officers later arrested Johnson-Davies, discovering a balaclava with Madondo’s DNA at her Peckham home. Secret messages between Johnson-Davies and Simmonds revealed plans to wash Madondo’s bloodied clothing.

Police found Madondo’s hoodie and joggers dumped near Simmonds’ Dulwich flat, leading to her arrest.

Sentencing Looms as Community Mourns

Madondo remains in custody awaiting a life sentence. Sentencing for the two women is set for August; Johnson-Davies was granted conditional bail.

The brutal killing of Jeremiah Sewell has shaken the local area and highlighted the tragic fallout from pointless violence. The guilty verdicts bring a sliver of justice to Jeremiah’s devastated family and friends.
