A tense standoff erupted in Swindon when armed police swooped on a lockdown street following a domestic incident. Within hours, a man was arrested, bringing a dramatic end to the chaos on Whiteman Street.
At around 6pm on Sunday 16 November, officers flooded Whiteman Street, Gorse Hill, near Florence Street. Armed police with rifles drawn sealed off the entire residential area, instructing locals to stay indoors as they focused on a terraced house.
Despite police entering the property, the suspect was not found at the scene. Firearms officers remained on guard overnight and into Monday afternoon.
Wiltshire Police later confirmed that the man handed himself in at Gablecross Police Station. He now faces serious charges including controlling and coercive behaviour, common assault, intentional strangulation, and threats to kill.
Paramedics also attended the scene to treat a victim, although police have not disclosed details about the victim’s condition or whether children were present.
“We urge anyone suffering abuse to reach out. Don’t suffer in silence,” said a police spokesperson.
