Police have launched an urgent investigation after a huge fire ravaged Alver Valley Country Park in Gosport. The blaze broke out late on Friday night, causing significant damage to the area.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 9.45pm on Friday 12 July to tackle a fierce fire burning across a large 100 by 150 metre patch of wildland within the park.
Authorities have confirmed that the fire is being treated as deliberate, with officers not ruling out any possibilities at this stage. The incident is now the subject of an active arson probe.
Police are appealing for witnesses who were near Alver Valley between 9.20pm and 10pm on Friday to come forward with any information. Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area during that time is urged to contact Hampshire Police.
