A ruthless male and female team targeted an elderly man in Gosport, snatching a large sum of cash moments after he withdrew money from his bank on Monday afternoon, December 17.
The pair approached the pensioner inside the bank, feigning a need for directions to the hospital. Moments after they left, he realised a hefty amount was missing from his inner jacket pocket.
“I only felt a small tap and thought nothing of it,” said the victim. “My jacket zip was still done up the whole time.”
Police are warning the public to stay alert at banks and ATMs. They advise being wary of strangers striking up unexpected conversations while withdrawing cash and to keep distance if someone approaches near the ATM.
Suspicious behaviour should be reported to bank customer service immediately.
Officers have appealed for information, warning that this pair may strike again. Anyone with details about the incident is urged to contact Hampshire Police on 101, asking for PC24257 Collier.
Stay sharp and protect your cash – don’t let criminals win.
