Tragic Derry Hill Crash: Corey Owen’s Funeral Route Announced
The funeral for Corey Owen, one of four friends fatally injured in last month’s horrific Derry Hill crash, is set for Monday 21st September.
Funeral Cortege to Pass Through Calne
Corey’s family have arranged a public cortege through Calne so the community can pay their respects. Starting at 10am, the procession will travel along Oxford Road, past the Tesco where Corey worked, then head down the bypass to School Road, through town, and onto the A4.
Family Urges Safe Social Distancing
The family have pleaded with the public to respect social distancing, advising no gatherings of more than six people along the route.
A celebration of Corey’s life will follow the service but will be by invitation only to ensure the event remains Covid-secure.
Police and Council Warn on Covid Safety
Inspector James Brain of Wiltshire Police said: “We understand people want to remember Corey, but ask everyone to follow Covid-19 guidelines to keep public health front of mind. With four funerals in Calne over the coming weeks, this is a tough time but everyone must be mindful of restrictions especially young people.”
Wiltshire Council Chief Executive Terence Herbert echoed these sentiments, adding: “Our thoughts are with the families of Corey, Jordan, Matthew, and Ryan. Covid-19 makes grieving even harder. We’ve worked with police to help families celebrate lives safely during these unprecedented times.”
