Triple death mystery rocks Swanage care home as detectives dig deep

Three deaths spark urgent probe at Gainsborough Care Home

Detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team are probing the baffling deaths of three elderly residents at a Swanage care home. On October 23, 2024, officers were called to Gainsborough Care Home on Ulwell Road following the deaths of two men, aged 74 and 91, and an 86-year-old woman.

Arrest made then dropped as investigation intensifies

A 60-year-old local woman was originally arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but has since been released without charge after thorough investigative work. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third confirmed the arrest was a necessary step to gather evidence but said there isn’t enough to press charges.

“We are working closely with HM Coroner and awaiting results from detailed forensic submissions and analysis, which could take several months to complete,” said DCI Third.

Families kept informed as police hunt cause of death

The cause of the deaths remains mysterious. Dorset Police are treating the cases as unexplained and pledging ongoing updates. Loved ones of the deceased remain central to the investigation, with families continuously updated on any new developments.

Detectives are pursuing all leads but warn it may take months before forensic results shed light on this troubling case.
