Car Fire Rampage Shakes South Belfast
Between Friday night and early Saturday, a spate of car attacks rocked south Belfast, leaving several vehicles torched and terrified drivers shaken.
Burning Fury on Fitzwilliam Street
Detective Sergeant Dougherty revealed the chaos began around 11.40pm on Friday 9th December when police were called to a car ablaze on Fitzwilliam Street. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service quickly doused the flames, but the vehicle was destroyed beyond repair.
Violent Assault on Lisburn Road
Minutes after the blaze, officers responded to a shocking attack nearby. A man reportedly forced a female driver out of her vehicle on Lisburn Road, kicking and punching her before fleeing on foot. The violence sent ripples of fear through the community.
More Fires and Break-Ins Follow
- Shortly before 11.50pm, a man was spotted trying car door handles on Upper Crescent.
- Then, just after midnight on 10th December, two vehicles were set on fire on Cameroon Street, causing extensive damage.
- Two other cars in the area had their door handles tampered with.
Suspect Caught and Held
Police soon tracked down the culprit near Botanic Avenue and arrested him on multiple charges, including two counts of arson and four counts of vehicle interference. He remains in custody.
“Our enquiries are ongoing,” said Detective Sergeant Dougherty. “We urge anyone who witnessed suspicious activity to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 2114 09/12/22.”
