Tragic Blaze: Woman Dies After Kitchen Fire in Northwood

Firefighters rushed to a residential blaze on Newport Road, Northwood, on June 20 after a kitchen caught fire.

Emergency crews quickly brought the fire under control, but one person was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital. The victim, an elderly woman in her 80s, was stretchered from the back of the property under blue lights.

Investigation Scaled Back but Death Confirmed

Fire investigation dogs were flown in from the mainland the following day. However, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service soon scaled back their probe, deeming the situation less severe than initially feared.

Tragically, the woman passed away on June 26 at St Mary’s Hospital. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the death and said police are working closely with the fire service and the Coroner to uncover what happened.
