Swindon’s streets have become safer after police officers on bicycle patrol seized an illegal e-bike being ridden unlawfully through the town.

PC Thompson, PC Ashman, and PC Gutowski were cycling around the town centre and park areas on Thursday when they spotted the e-bike on Midhurst Avenue, off Shaftesbury Avenue. The bike had been unlawfully modified, increasing its power and speed beyond the legal limits.

According to UK law, an e-bike motor must not exceed 250 watts in power. Additionally, the electric assistance must cut out at speeds of 15.5 mph or less. Any modifications that boost the speed or power beyond these limits are illegal.

Wiltshire Police are urging all e-bike riders to comply with these regulations or risk having their bikes seized. For more information on e-bike laws, riders can visit the Wiltshire Police website.
