The drama began early at around 08:00 GMT when officers noticed the individual climbing the solemn Smolensk monument. Police spokesperson Sylwester Marczak revealed the situation took a turn for the worse when the man allegedly made alarming remarks hinting at danger to people nearby.
“We are now using an x-ray machine to check his backpack for safety,” Marczak told reporters. Though initial reports mentioned a bomb threat, details remain unclear on whether the man threatened to blow himself up.
