Armed officers from Hampshire Police swooped on a £500,000 four-bedroom house in Portsmouth today following reports of a firearm used to injure several people at the Anchorage Park estate.

The call came in just before 10am on Wednesday, 14th September. Paramedics from South Central Ambulance were also scrambled to the scene of what police have described as a “tragic incident.”

The property, owned by former jewellery shop manager Christopher Stone-Houghton, is now sealed off by a large police cordon. Shocked neighbours claim that Christopher Stone-Houghton allegedly shot himself and multiple others believed to be family members, including his partner, Ruth Stone-Houghton.

One anonymous local said they heard multiple loud bangs that sounded like gunshots.

Specialist crime scene officers and major crime detectives have converged on the property. They have been speaking to stunned residents left reeling by the events. Police expect the crime scene to remain in place for some time while they carry out their investigation.

“Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Portsmouth,” Hampshire Police said.

“Officers were called to Holcot Lane at 10.27am on 14 September. On arrival, they found the body of a 60-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man inside the property.”

“At this stage, the incident is being treated as isolated. The community is reassured there is no wider risk. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.”

“We will maintain a police presence at the address in coming days and thank residents for their patience.”

“Formal ID procedures are ongoing. Specialist officers are supporting the family.”

More updates will follow as the investigation develops.
