Armed Robber Dies After Dramatic Shop Struggle in Elm Park
A suspected armed robber has died in hospital after a violent scuffle during a shop robbery attempt in Elm Park. The 52-year-old man allegedly threatened staff with a knife before being restrained.
Robber Caught by Staff and Public Before Police Arrived
Police rushed to a shop on St Nicholas Avenue at 6:49am on December 30 after reports of a knife-wielding man menacing staff. The suspect was held by shop workers and a member of the public until officers arrived. During the struggle, he was injured and required urgent medical attention.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service took the man to hospital in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, he died on January 1.
Investigation Underway as Police Seek Witnesses
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support. A special post-mortem will take place to determine the exact cause of death.
“Officers are continuing their enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident. At this stage, there is no indication of any further suspects involved,” a Met spokesperson said.
