A man in his 50s is fighting for his life following a serious moped collision in Butterworth Street, Swindon, just after midnight.
Wiltshire Police were called to the scene at around 12:30 AM after reports of a collision involving a dark-coloured moped and a parked car. Officers found the injured man with life-threatening wounds and immediately took him to hospital for treatment.
The Serious Collision Investigation Team is now conducting a thorough inquiry into the crash. They are appealing to anyone who saw the moped riding near Faringdon Road or Park Lane before the collision to come forward with information.
Members of the public with information are asked to contact the investigation team on 01225 694597, quoting log number 8 from today. Details can also be emailed to SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk.
Wiltshire Police have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the moped rider had prior contact with officers. The IOPC will carry out an independent investigation to ensure transparency throughout the process.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said, “Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family at this difficult time. We are committed to thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
