Reckless Driver Rams Police Car in Dangerous Incident
A rogue driver in a maroon Volvo S60 nearly hit an officer before crashing into a police car, narrowly avoiding serious injuries to two officers on patrol.
High-Speed Reversing and Collision
Just before 9:10 p.m. on Friday, officers spotted the Volvo on Buncrana Road. It had been flagged earlier for erratic driving. When officers stopped the vehicle at the junction of Buncrana Road and Upper Galliagh Road, one officer got out to approach the car.
But the driver suddenly reversed at speed, nearly hitting the officer and a parked car. The suspect then aimed the car straight at the officer, forcing a desperate leap to safety. Without stopping, the driver smashed into the police vehicle—still occupied by another officer—before speeding away along Whitehouse Road.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
“This reckless act endangered both officers and the public. Our investigation continues as we hunt for the driver,” said Inspector McDermott.
