Police Chase Ends in Crash and Arrests in Charlton
Emergency crews rushed to Thorntree Road, Charlton, following a dramatic police pursuit that ended in a crash, trapping those involved inside the vehicle.
High-Speed Chase and Collision
The chase started at 12:51pm on Wednesday, 18 January, when officers tried to stop a stolen car in Woolwich. The driver refused to stop, sparking a police pursuit.
Just five minutes later, at 12:56pm, the suspect vehicle smashed into another car at the junction of Wolfe Crescent and Thorntree Road.
Three Suspects Arrested, Injuries Reported
- Three men inside the stolen car were arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft.
- Two of the suspects were taken to hospital with injuries, but they were not life-threatening.
- Both have since been discharged and are now in police custody.
Road Closures and Ongoing Investigations
Emergency services, including paramedics and the London Fire Brigade, responded to the crash. Road closures were put in place at the junction, disrupting bus route 340, which has been diverted.
The road reopened around 2:20pm after the vehicle was recovered. The Metropolitan Police confirmed enquiries are ongoing.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “At 12:51pm on 18 January, officers attempted to stop a stolen car in Woolwich. The driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit. The vehicle was involved in a collision at Wolfe Crescent and Thorntree Road at 12:56pm. Three men were arrested on suspicion of theft, with two taken to hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”
