A tragic fire in South Norwood, South London, claimed the life of a woman on Christmas Eve. The blaze broke out in a first-floor flat on Selhurst Road just after midnight on December 23rd.
Four fire crews from Woodside, Croydon, and Norbury responded quickly to the emergency. Despite their efforts and the prompt arrival of the London Ambulance Service, the woman was rescued but later died in hospital.
The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire. A crime scene has been established outside the property as specialist fire investigators examine the wreckage.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Sadly, a woman has died following a flat fire on Selhurst Road, South Norwood. Part of a first-floor flat was damaged by fire. She was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital by ambulance crews but later died.”
Details so far indicate the fire started just after midnight on December 23rd. Four fire engines battled the blaze, bringing it under control by 12:20 am. Although the woman was removed alive from the flat, she succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is under active investigation. Emergency services have been contacted for further comment as detectives continue to investigate this heartbreaking incident in South London.
