Acid Attack Shocks Corby Football Pitch
Five people needed medical treatment after youths on mopeds allegedly launched an acid attack at Burghley Road playing fields in Corby, Northamptonshire. The shocking incident unfolded Wednesday evening, leaving several vehicles damaged and families shaken.
Chaos at Children’s Football Training
Armed police, fire crews, paramedics, and a police helicopter rushed to the scene as children gathered for football training with Hellenic Fisher FC. Eyewitnesses said a group riding motorbikes, mopeds, and e-bikes tore across the field, hurling hydrochloric acid into the car park.
The acid caused tingling skin to several people who came into contact with it. Seven cars, including the coach’s, were severely damaged. Although five individuals received medical attention, miraculously no serious injuries were reported.
Police Launch Operation Pacify to Nab Culprits
“We do not believe this was a targeted attack. Five people have been treated, and while there are no serious injuries, seven cars were damaged,” said Sergeant Keely Cox of Corby Police.
“Operation Pacify will be fully deployed to catch those responsible.”
Local Club Demands Urgent Safety Fixes
Hellenic Fisher FC officials voiced frustration over ongoing safety issues at the venue. Club chairman Paul Cunningham stressed, “Everyone’s safety is paramount. We’ve repeatedly requested repairs to broken fences and the clubhouse, which has been shut for two years. This could have happened anywhere. We will push the council to prioritise repairs.”
