Arson probe launched after fire breaks out at derelict Isle of Wight holiday park
Blaze hits abandoned Harcourt Sands site in Ryde
A joint arson investigation is underway after a fire erupted at the rundown Harcourt Sands complex in Ryde last night. Firefighters from Ryde Fire Station rushed to the scene just before 9pm following multiple reports of flames and thick black smoke billowing over Puckpool Hill.
The crew swiftly doused the flames using a hose reel and jet, preventing the fire from spreading. Locals spotted the smoke cloud from afar, raising fresh alarm over the long-empty site.
Harcourt Sands’ troubled past fuels suspicion
The now-derelict former holiday park has a history of arson attacks over the past decade it’s sat abandoned and falling apart. Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the exact cause of last night’s blaze remains uncertain, with police and fire crews launching a formal investigation.
Police hunting witnesses
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the fire to step forward. Hampshire Police can be contacted on 101 to help crack the case.
