Chaos Ahead: 19.5 Million Brits Hit the Roads Over Bank Holiday
The RAC warns of a major rush on UK roads as nearly 20 million leisure trips are set to clog the motorways this Wednesday through Sunday.
Friday Set to Be Traffic Nightmare
A survey of 1,460 drivers reveals Friday will be peak chaos. Day-trippers and families returning from half-term breaks will combine to create jam-packed conditions.
Traffic experts at Inrix advise motorists to travel either before 6am or after 3pm to dodge the worst congestion.
Hotspots: M25 and A303
The infamous M25 anticlockwise from Junction 17 (Maple Cross) to Junction 12 (M3 interchange) is primed for gridlock.
Meanwhile, the A303 near Wiltshire—the go-to route for South West holidaymakers—is also expected to choke.
Short Trips Popular as Drivers Plan Carefully
Despite the chaos, 37% of drivers told the RAC they won’t be going far during the bank holiday.
RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: “Drivers clearly see a double bank holiday this close to the summer as a gift, with millions eager to make the most of it. Many appear keen to keep their car journeys short, mixing day trips with Jubilee celebrations at home.”
“The end of half-term coinciding with the bank holidays will put extra pressure on roads, so planning carefully is key to beating queues.”
“Make sure you check your oil, coolant, screenwash and tyre pressure before you set off. A bit of TLC now could save a breakdown later.”
