A local man, Ben Trickett, captured a surprising incident on West Street, Fareham, when a Traffic Warden issued a parking ticket to an ambulance. The vehicle is operated by SSG UK Specialist Ambulance Service, located nearby on Wickham Road.
SSG UK provides essential 999 emergency services for the South Central Ambulance Service, with a focus on secure mental health transport. These ambulances are fully equipped and staffed by crews trained to NHS standards, making them more than standard patient transport vehicles.
The ambulance crews often work demanding 12-hour shifts with only about 30 minutes of break time. In busy locations such as Portsmouth, finding time for rest or even a quick coffee break by the roadside is extremely difficult.
Because ambulance crews need to remain close to their vehicles to respond immediately to emergencies, they face unique challenges. Despite their critical role, they are still subject to local parking regulations. This has led to debate over whether issuing parking tickets to emergency workers during active shifts is appropriate.
A spokesperson for the company stated, “The decisions that the crews make on a daily basis are serious and life-changing.”
