Chaos erupted this afternoon at HMP Swaleside, located in Eastchurch, as emergency teams rushed to contain a disturbance within the prison.
The Ministry of Justice has stated that the situation is under control, although tensions remain high inside the facility.
Police vehicles and two Tornado Squad rapid response vans arrived promptly at the scene in response to an incident involving a small number of prisoners.
Officials have confirmed that the unrest is limited to one landing on a single wing. The remainder of the prison remains secure, with all other inmates locked in their cells.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service said: “We are currently managing an ongoing incident at HMP Swaleside.” They reassured the public that there is no threat outside the prison walls and emphasized that the offenders involved will face serious consequences.
“We are absolutely clear that offenders who behave in this way will be punished and face spending extra time behind bars.”
