Human Remains Found in Tenerife Could Be Missing UK Teen Jay Slater
Spanish police have found human remains believed to be those of Jay Slater, a British teen who vanished nearly a month ago on Tenerife. Although formal identification is pending, all signs point to the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, northwest England.
Body Discovered After 29 Days of Searching
The Civil Guard’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group located the body in the remote Masca area after nearly a month of relentless searching. A police statement said: “All indications suggest it could be the young British man missing since June 17.”
Jay was last seen setting out on a grueling 11-hour trek on foot from Masca village in northwest Tenerife to Los Cristianos in the south, where he was staying.
Final Frantic Call Revealed
His friend Lucy Law revealed Jay made a desperate call that morning, saying he was “lost in the mountains,” unaware of his surroundings, thirsty and with just 1% phone battery left.
LBT Global, the charity supporting Jay’s family, confirmed his clothes and belongings were found near the spot where his phone last pinged.
Next Steps: Autopsy to Confirm Cause of Death
Authorities say an autopsy will be carried out to confirm the cause of death and if it was accidental. Jay had attended a music festival the day before disappearing.
The grim discovery brings to a heartbreaking close a month-long search involving helicopters, drones and search dogs.
