Sandy Lane in Newport is shut after a colossal 150-year-old oak tree came crashing down overnight. The mighty oak fell smack in the middle of the carriageway, blocking both sides from Whitcombe Road to Marvel Lane.
Contractors Scramble to Clear the Chaos
Island Roads contractors are on the scene, battling to chop up the giant tree and reopen the road. One local said: “It came down with a bit of a bang.”
Expect Delays as Cleanup Continues
Work is expected to take the whole day as crews tackle the huge task. Motorists are advised to avoid Sandy Lane while the ancient oak is cleared away.
