Storm Havoc: 57,000 Irish Homes Still in Darkness

Ireland is reeling after Storm Isha, with a shocking 57,000 homes, farms, and businesses still without power. As if that wasn’t enough, the nation now braces for the next battering by Storm Jocelyn. Communities battered by Isha face fresh threats as the new storm approaches.

Power Struggles: Restoration Efforts Hit Northwest Hardest

ESB Networks has restored power to over 178,000 premises following outages that peaked at 235,000 during Storm Isha. But the northwestern counties — Donegal, Mayo, Leitrim, Cavan, and Sligo — remain worst hit, with many still in the dark.

Brian Tapley, ESB senior engineer, warned: “Restoring power with Storm Jocelyn on the horizon is a huge challenge. New outages are likely. The worst-affected areas remain our top priority.”

Aftermath Chaos: Fallen Trees and Road Warnings

The iconic Dark Hedges in Co Antrim haven’t escaped unscathed. Several trees were damaged by Storm Isha, and authorities warn the public to steer clear of fallen trees and unstable structures as the cleanup grinds on.

Donegal County Council’s Bryan Cannon confirmed main roads are mostly clear, but back roads still face blockages. Landowners must check their properties for risky trees and act now before Jocelyn hits.

New Storm Alerts Ignite Anxiety Across Ireland

  • Two Status Orange wind warnings are active for Donegal, Mayo, and Galway from 6pm onwards.
  • Met Éireann warns of treacherous travel, coastal wave overtopping, and more fallen trees.

The country faces difficult days as it endures back-to-back storms, keeping everyone on edge.
