Specialist Dogs Join Search for Missing British Teen in Tenerife
Madrid-trained search dogs have been brought in to help find Jay Slater, 19, who vanished on Tenerife’s rugged north coast. The Oswaldtwistle teen went missing early Monday morning on June 17 while on holiday with friends.
Last Known Whereabouts Near Masca Mountains
Jay was last heard from around 8:30am when he called a friend, saying he was setting off on foot after missing his bus. His walk would have taken him through the mountainous area of Rural de Teno Park near the village of Masca, renowned for its difficult terrain.
Massive Search Effort Underway
Tenerife police and the Civil Guard have mounted a full-scale search operation. A spokesperson confirmed:
“The Civil Guard continues with the search for the young British man who disappeared in the Masca neighbourhood of Buenavista del Norte. Various units and specialized search dogs from Madrid are involved.”
These canine teams specialise in covering large areas quickly, a crucial advantage in this vast and uneven landscape.
Family Hold onto Hope as Search Intensifies
Last night, Jay’s family released a blurry CCTV image of a figure they believe to be him, spotted in a nearby town some 10 hours after his disappearance. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.
The search continues as loved ones pray for Jay’s safe return.
