Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III’s much-anticipated state visit to the United States will go ahead as scheduled, despite calls from some quarters to delay or cancel the trip due to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
The historic visit is planned for late April, with exact dates to be announced closer to the time. The King and Queen have accepted an invitation from the President of the United States to celebrate the deep historic ties and the modern partnership between the two nations.
“On the advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of the President of the United States, the King and Queen will undertake a state visit to the United States of America,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said. “Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.”
Following the visit to America, King Charles will travel to Bermuda for his first official visit as monarch to a British Overseas Territory. Buckingham Palace stated that the visit will highlight the enduring ties between the United Kingdom and its overseas territories.
