Early commuters on the M20 faced significant disruption on the morning of March 31 after a crash and oil spill forced the closure of two lanes on the westbound carriageway.

The incident occurred around 6 am between junction 4 (Leybourne) and junction 2 (Wrotham), causing heavy congestion during the rush hour period.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene to manage the spillage and clear debris from the road. By 7:40 am, two lanes had reopened, but two westbound lanes remained closed while crews continued their work.

To ensure safety during operations, one lane on the eastbound side of the M20 was also closed temporarily.

Officials have warned that the lane closures will remain in place until overnight resurfacing is completed. National Highways reported that there were no major delays so far, but motorists are advised to use alternative routes via the A228 and A20 to avoid potential hold-ups.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the clean-up and repair work progress.
