Chaos has erupted on the M25 this afternoon following a multi-car crash that has caused significant delays for drivers. The collision occurred on the clockwise carriageway between Junction 8 (Reigate) and Junction 9 (Leatherhead), resulting in lane closures and heavy congestion.
According to National Highways, lanes 1 and 2 out of 4 remain closed as emergency crews work to clear the crash scene. Motorists are currently facing up to 60 minutes of extra travel time, with approximately 7 miles of stop-start traffic reported in the area.
Emergency services including National Highways and Surrey Police are on site, coordinating efforts to manage traffic flow and assist those involved in the incident. Recovery teams are actively removing wreckage while investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
A spokesperson from National Highways advised, “Please allow extra time for your journey or consider an alternative route if possible. We appreciate your patience while emergency services work to reopen the lanes safely.”
Drivers are strongly urged to avoid this section of the M25 if possible and to seek alternative routes until all lanes are fully reopened. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
