A 29-year-old man has been jailed for 21 months after admitting a threatening and abusive behaviour offence in Edinburgh. Marcus Laidley-Sobers, 29, was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, after previously pleading guilty to the offence. Laidley-Sobers entered his guilty plea at the same court on Monday, 22 June 2026.

Incident in West Court

The conviction relates to an incident in the West Court area of Edinburgh on Thursday, 20 March 2025. Police Scotland received reports of threatening and abusive behaviour and launched an investigation. Following enquiries, officers executed a warrant and arrested Laidley-Sobers on Wednesday, 2 April 2025, charging him in connection with the incident.

Sentenced to 21 months

Appearing before Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Laidley-Sobers was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment. Police Scotland welcomed the outcome, saying officers remain committed to taking robust action against those responsible for threatening and abusive behaviour in communities across Scotland.
