West Wight Roads to Get Major Summer Makeover
The West Wight is gearing up for a big boost this summer with a fresh wave of road resurfacing. Key routes set for daytime repairs include Warlands Lane in Shalfleet, Yarmouth Road in Calbourne, Brook Road and Shalcombe Road in Brook, plus Upper Lane in Brighstone. Totland’s Granville Road, Headon Rise, York Lane, and York Road aren’t being left out either, along with The Causeway, Church Place, and Victoria Road in Freshwater.
75km Already Revamped
Island Roads has already resurfaced around 75km of roads in West Wight as part of the Highways PFI Partnership. This work covers major arteries like Forest Road, Bouldnor Road, the Military Road, and Middle Road, making journeys smoother and safer for locals and tourists alike.
Plus, the Brighstone Viaduct has seen a recent upgrade in a separate major scheme, improving this vital transport link.
What Locals Can Expect
Residents will get letters ahead of any work, detailing times and instructions, including moving their cars temporarily. Though weather or other factors could cause last-minute changes, yellow advance notice boards will be posted on-site to keep everyone updated.
Steve Ashman, Service Director for Island Roads, said: “While residents are already benefitting from many of the major routes through the West Wight that have now been resurfaced, the summer months provide an opportunity for us to look at some of the smaller residential streets without causing disruption to this beautiful part of the Island that is so popular with tourists.”
