Blaze Ravages Barbican Flat as 60 Firefighters Battle Flames
Massive Fire Breaks Out on Bartholomew Close
This afternoon, a fierce fire tore through a four-room flat on the third floor of a Barbican residential block. Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters swarmed the scene to tackle the blaze.
Flames Cause Severe Damage and Injure One
The fire gutted most of the third-floor flat and damaged a neighbouring flat above on the fourth floor. A man escaped the inferno before firefighters arrived and was rushed to hospital by Ambulance Service crews.
Firefighters Use Drones to Fight Fire
Station Commander Steve Howlett praised his team’s efforts: “Firefighters worked incredibly hard to ensure everyone was accounted for and there were no remaining hot spots.” The Brigade’s Drone Team provided crucial aerial views, helping command officers spot hard-to-reach areas.
Swift Response and Ongoing Investigation
- The Brigade was alerted at 3.58pm and declared the fire out by 6.13pm.
- Fire crews from Soho, East Greenwich, Lambeth, and other nearby stations rushed to help.
- The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
