Robert MacDonald, aged 75, has been sentenced after being found guilty of seven counts of indecent assault related to historical abuse against a young girl in the Parbold and Skelmersdale areas.
Lancashire Police launched an investigation after the victim bravely came forward in 2023. This led to MacDonald’s conviction at Preston Crown Court.
MacDonald, also known as Rab, faced charges concerning abuse that occurred several years ago. The victim’s decision to report the abuse renewed the police inquiry and resulted in a guilty verdict at trial.
Sergeant Rebecca Pugh praised the victim for her courage in speaking out. She stated: “She has had to live with what he did to her for a long time, and even after she had the courage to report him, he still made her relive that experience through a trial.”
Sgt Pugh also expressed gratitude for the victim’s strength throughout the legal proceedings.
The sentencing at Preston Crown Court brings closure to a long and difficult chapter for the victim. Law enforcement officials emphasised the importance of supporting victims who come forward and ensuring that offenders like MacDonald are held accountable for their actions.
