Saltdean Lido Reopening Hit by Last-Minute Water Leak

Saltdean Lido’s eagerly awaited May 1st reopening looks set to be pushed back. A sneaky water leak in the pool’s pipework has thrown a spanner in the works just as the heated 40m pool was being refilled after winter maintenance.

Leak Discovered During Winter Prep

Volunteers spotted a leak between the skimmers and filters beneath the pool. Thankfully, the damage is confined to one spot and shouldn’t cause any serious problems. Paul Douglas-Smith, the Lido’s General Manager, revealed the faulty pipe runs about a metre under the pool’s paved area.

“We’ll be using tracing dye and cameras to pinpoint the exact source,” he said. Paul also stressed the urgency: “We must fix it quickly as chlorinated water leaking into the ground is both harmful to the environment and strictly banned.”

Volunteers and Visitors Feel the Blow

Derek Leaver, Chairman of Saltdean Lido, voiced his disappointment but insisted safety comes first. “It’s a shame for everyone, especially the volunteers and supporters, who have worked so hard and were excited to dive back in,” he said.

Lido Pushes Ahead with Events Despite Delay

Though lost ticket sales sting, the Lido isn’t letting up. Poolside parties and the BIG WEEKEND with live music are still on the cards, with more details coming soon. Fans can follow all repair updates on Saltdean Lido’s website and social channels.
