A 27-year-old man from Sheffield has been jailed after leading armed police on a high-speed chase that involved ramming two police cars and fleeing on foot into woodland. The incident took place on the night of Saturday 25 April at 11.17pm.

Kai Haddington was seen driving a blue VW Caddy through a red light on Penistone Road, Sheffield. Armed officers in an unmarked vehicle signalled for him to stop, but he refused and sped off, taking dangerous risks such as running red lights and driving the wrong way down one-way streets.

During the pursuit, police coordinated closely with roads policing units and a dog handler to monitor the situation. The attempt to bring Haddington to a safe stop escalated when he rammed two police vehicles to avoid capture.

Haddington then abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into nearby woodland. A police dog tracked him down, finding him hiding in shrubbery, leading to his arrest.

The chase resulted in over £20,000 worth of damage to police cars and caused significant distress to the officers involved. Bodycam footage recorded Haddington apologising during his arrest. Police suspected he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but he refused to provide a sample for testing.

At Sheffield Crown Court on 11 May, Haddington pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, disqualified from driving for 37 months, required to take an extended driving retest, and ordered to pay £187 in costs.
