Passengers faced significant delays this morning after a Southern Rail train struck debris from a damaged level crossing barrier near Adversane. The incident occurred just after 8:15 AM on the route between Billingshurst and Pulborough, disrupting the morning commute for many.

The driver’s 123 service sustained considerable damage, affecting both the train and the track infrastructure. This damage forced a halt to services and caused widespread disruption on this busy line.

Staff responded swiftly by transferring all passengers to an adjacent train, which helped to minimise further delays and allowed journeys to continue as smoothly as possible under the circumstances.

Network Rail has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident and to implement measures to prevent similar events in the future.

Southern Rail has issued an apology to all customers affected by the disruption. They are encouraging anyone who experienced delays due to today’s incident to contact them for compensation.
