Wightlink Warriors Shake Up Squad with Shaun Tedham Boost
The Wightlink Warriors are switching gears after a rocky start this season. Shaun Tedham is coming in to strengthen the side, taking a reserve spot with a solid 3.08 average. He replaces Jamie Sealey, but fans need not fret – Jamie stays on board as number 8 and will captain the Wightlink Wizards.
Fresh Blood to Fire Up Struggling Warriors
Team Manager Jackie Vatcher admitted the season hasn’t gone to plan after an opening win. “We’re not panicking, but four matches in, including two home losses, mean it’s time for change. We’re thrilled to welcome Shaun Tedham to the squad,” she said.
Shaun will slot in at number 6. Jackie praised Jamie’s dedication and promised ongoing support to help him fight back for a main team spot. “Please give Shaun a right royal Warriors welcome on Thursday,” she added.
Tedham Ready to Revive His Speedway Career
Shaun Tedham, 37, from Merseyside spoke openly about his return. “I’m delighted to join the Warriors,” he said. “Once I got the call from Jackie, I rang my good pal and former teammate Ben Hopwood straight away. He had nothing but praise for the Warriors.”
“I spent all day yesterday at Ben’s workshop getting my bikes race-ready. I haven’t raced since last year, so it might take a few laps to find my rhythm. This year is make or break for me – I felt stale at Stoke after too long there, and personal issues slowed me down. That’s all balanced now. I’m itching to prove to the fans and management they made the right call.”
Hard Decisions but Hope for a League Climb
Co-promoter Barry Bishop revealed the tough choice to switch reserves. “Replacing Jamie was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made. Jamie remains a favourite and will lead the Wizards while holding the Warriors’ number 8 spot. We’ll work closely with him to help him push back into the reserve spot.”
“We welcome Shaun and hope his experience can strengthen our reserve position home and away. He always rides well on the Island, so fingers crossed he drives us up the league table.”
Tedham makes his debut against Mildenhall on Thursday at Smallbrook Stadium as the Warriors continue their National Trophy campaign.
