A deadly suicide bombing has rocked Kabul Airport, claiming at least 13 lives and injuring several US military personnel. The blast occurred near one of the main gates amid chaos as thousands scramble to escape Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
Horror at Abbey Gate Amid Evacuation Frenzy
The attack unfolded late Thursday afternoon by a sewage canal near Abbey Gate, a key entry point used by US and UK forces. Witnesses reported a bomb detonation followed by gunfire, with scenes of bloodied and injured civilians captured near the site. Among the wounded are at least three American citizens, including US Marines. Tragically, a baby also died, though their nationality is yet unknown.
Warnings Ignored as Terror Unfolds
This chilling strike came less than 24 hours after the US Embassy warned of imminent threats around Kabul Airport gates. Americans were urged to leave Abbey, East, and North Gates immediately, but the explosion struck before many could heed the call.
“We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said. “We will provide additional details when we can.”
With thousands desperate to flee, the bombing adds fresh urgency to the dire evacuation efforts in Afghanistan.
