Tragic Death on Tracks Near Canterbury East Shuts Down Rail Line
A fatal incident rocked the Dover-Faversham line late Tuesday night when a person was struck and killed by a train near Canterbury East railway station. The horror unfolded at 11:19pm, throwing the busy route into chaos.
Emergency Crews Battle Through the Night
Rescue teams swarmed the scene, staying until 6:49am the next morning, says Southeastern. The last two trains were rerouted to Ramsgate, with replacement buses stepping in to keep passengers moving amid serious disruption.
Once emergency crews cleared, engineers worked on the damaged train, prolonging line closures and triggering cancellations and altered services between Dover and Faversham.
Police and Rail Authorities Speak Out
Officers were called to the line near Canterbury East railway station at 11.19pm yesterday (23 December) following reports of a casualty on the tracks,” a British Transport Police spokesperson said. “Paramedics attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue.”
Southeastern added: “Sadly a person was hit by a train late last night between Dover and Faversham. Trains were diverted to allow emergency services to complete their work. The lines have now reopened.”
Stagecoach buses ran replacement services and accepted train tickets during the disruption. The first train back was the 7:26am Faversham to Dover service, followed by the 8:18am Dover to London Victoria train.
