Sudden Shutdown Leaves Taps Dry
Residents in Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas are suffering a water shortage after the Pembury water treatment works abruptly stopped working at 1:30pm on Saturday. South East Water confirmed an “issue” forced the plant’s immediate closure, causing local water storage tanks to drain and vital booster pumps to fail.
These booster pumps push water uphill to homes above the treatment plant. Without them, many are now without running water or struggling with dangerously low pressure.
Where to Get Water – Bottled Supplies Available
- Bottled water is being handed out until 10pm today at Sovereign Way East Car Park in Tonbridge.
- South East Water is delivering water bottles directly to vulnerable customers on their Priority Services Register who can’t collect supplies themselves.
