A Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-3Q8 carrying 267 passengers struck a radar antenna while taxiing at Antalya Airport, Turkey, on Friday. The collision caused severe damage to the aircraft and resulted in one person being injured.
Emergency services quickly attended the scene to assist passengers and control the situation. Footage captured the plane’s wing torn after hitting the tall metal radar antenna, showing the extent of the damage.
The impact caused oxygen masks to deploy inside the cabin and overhead lockers to open suddenly, prompting an urgent evacuation. Passengers exited the aircraft via stairs, with several visibly shaken and recording the scene on their devices.
One female traveller reported hearing terrifying noises as parts of the wing broke and the radar structure collapsed onto the runway. Firefighters and paramedics rapidly responded to assist those on board, with only one injury confirmed.
Passengers experienced a delay of approximately two hours before their luggage was returned. Turkish Airlines has launched a full technical investigation to determine how the aircraft clipped the radar antenna, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future at Antalya Airport.
